I recently added a PS3 to my system. I had auditioned other phono stages and found them uninspiring in some cases, and in others the colorization of the sound was off-putting. I also tried various combinations of step-up transformers and even used the fairly good one built into my pre-amp. Many over the years have come to understand the diminishing returns as we move to higher and higher-end gear. I was hoping for an improvement in the sound but ended up very pleasantly shocked to find the PS3 improved things easily by 20% or more. There is now added detail, a better soundstage, and vocals blossomed! Easily one of my best upgrades recently.
